Now, THAT'S Devotion!
I guess. Maybe. Reportedly in theory.
I get loads of text messages asking for donations. Today, I got one from Ronnie Murchison-Rivera, who is running against Randy Fine in Florida’s sixth federal Congressional district. I live in Florida, but not in the sixth Congressional district. So, Murchison-Rivera was looking for donations, not for my vote.
Murchison-Rivera quoted Fine, who is the angriest, or nearly so, member of the US House of Representatives. Fine hates Muslims, he concluded that Islamophobia was “rational,” and he declared Rashida Tlaib and Ilhan Omar “terrorists.” He also threw into the mix that LGBTQ+ people are “perverts” and “groomers.” (I wonder if Fine is aware that at least one shipload of Jews was turned away from this country during WWII, because we didn’t want any more of “those” people here. I grew up on Miami Beach, and it was before my time, so well before Fine’s time, that some apartment buildings had signs that said “No Jews or Dogs.” I wonder if Fine knows about that.)
This mix of hatreds recalls my still unanswered question of what, exactly, is the Rep/con platform. Fine covers enough of the map to make it impossible to tell. Unless Fine is an example of it: just hate everyone, and hoover up as much money as you can.
But Murchison-Rivera called his appeal “They had me for free.” It turns out that he was quoting Fine, who is so devoted to Israel (Fine wears a kippah on his head, so he’s either Orthodox or Conservative Jewish), that he will represent their wishes simply out of devotion to his constituent, which is the State of Israel. Weirdly, he also takes a salary and benefits from Americans, even though they are not his constituents, AND he accepts money from AIPAC. It’s completely mysterious enough to me whom Fine represents, and I’m not sure it’s clear to him. He lives in one country, and takes money from the taxpayers of that country to be part of their government, but he doesn’t like the people from that country, and he claims his real devotion is to a different country, which he would represent “for free,” except he takes money from their boosters, too. He does not excuse the taxpayers of the country where he lives from paying him, since he doesn’t like them or care about them, and it’s anyone’s guess if he would really represent some other country, about which he does care, even if someone didn’t pay him extra to do it. And we’re left with the question of why he doesn’t just move to the country he likes, since they could “[have him] for free.” If they really could.
Well, I do hope Fine gets ejected, as probably all Democrats do, and increasing numbers of Republicans probably do, too. That may be especially true as even Republicans see what a tool the clown/princess/vacuum is to Israel, and Fine has made clear Israel is his only devotion, too. Who knew that in the absence of Biden’s “ironclad support” of Israel, also lubricated by AIPAC money, Israel would still have the clown/princess/vacuum and Fine. And anyone else AIPAC can buy.
